Today this blog comes to life and we virtually open the doors of the Grand Hotel Majestic "già Baglioni" in Bologna, a special place full of stories and anecdotes.
The role of our virtual Guide goes to Tiberio Biondi, General Manager and keeper of keys and memories, who has been taking care of this property for more than thirty years and knows every secret about the hotel.
I welcome and invite you to let yourself be leaded by your curiosity. I will share with you the most particular tales of this 18th century palace, which still now represents a safe haven in the heart of the city. Finally, all the stories related to the “Majestic” will find a virtual space and live a second life in a digital version.
We will talk about cinema and entertainment, thanks to the celebrities who have signed our Guests golden book: stars like Clark Gable, Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra, Sean Connery and most recently Roman Polanski, Hayao Miyazaki, Dario Fo, Spike Lee, Emir Kusturica, Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, Jane Champion and many others.
We will tell about Bologna, its legends, its arcades, its medieval towers, but also its recipes, the art of good living, the warm hospitality of a city known as "the fat, the learned and the red".
The hotel is located just a few steps from Piazza Maggiore, next to Palazzo Fava and the cathedral of San Pietro and it has always had a special role to play in the cultural life of the area.
But why just stop to the present? We will travel back in time to discover our history. We will visit the remains of a Roman imperial path on the lower floor, among the hidden treasures of the hotel; the Camerino di Europa; on our “noble floor” a function space adorned by the Carracci brothers frescoes.
Taking a seat at the Cafè Marinetti we will recall the famous Marinetti blitz- exhibition held inside the hotel and we will enter the suites, recently turned into movie sets.
