At Collezioni Comunali d’Arte, there will be an exhibition displaying artworks depicting sacred and profane history owned by Fondazione Gualandi that dialogue with the works of contemporary artists and artists who inspired him.
The idea for the exhibition (the first survey on the Italian artist in a museum institution) originated in a reflection on the very notion of the retrospective - whether it is possible to represent the evolution of an artist’s research in such a format, with sections corresponding to “year-objects”, starting from the artist’s year of birth.
Among the selected subjects appear characters related to bullfighting and the circus, silent and balanced dead nature, delicate nudes, religious personalities, individuals caught in their everyday life: a visual review that takes into account Botero's intense visual research, aimed at the affirmation of its characteristic language.
In particular, Trekking Urbano Bologna will welcome foreign tourists with two special free guided tours in English: on Thursday 31st October, you will follow the trails of some of the celebrities that stopped in the shade of the Two Towers, learn curious anecdotes on them and, above all, discover the charm that Bologna exercised on them; on Saturday 2nd November, you will stroll through the narrow streets of Bologna Medieval Market district and you will meet artisans that still today produce masterpieces and 'jewels' of rare beauty.
Curated by Francesco Zanot, this edition includes 10 exhibitions in historical locations of the city centre and one at MAST, co-directed by Urs Stahel.
Among spectacular images, videomapping breaking through the walls creating new architectures, sets and freely reconstructed environments and immersive music, the exhibition itinerary tells the human and artistic story of the "Red Priest" - so he was called because of his tawny hair.
Through a series of works, including videos, photographs and installations that touch on the history of science, the development of media culture, the romanticism of the exhibition and the contemporary ecological crisis, Charrière leads us to a visual and conceptual meditation on the imaginary contemporary geographical.
