Curated by Francesco Zanot, this edition includes 10 exhibitions in historical locations of the city centre and one at MAST, co-directed by Urs Stahel.
The theme of the Photo/Industry 2019 Biennial is building, a crucial action, intimately rooted in the nature of the human species, which is explored here in its entirety, from its historical and philosophical roots to the inevitable scientific implications. This activity gives shape to what is known as the technosphere: the wealth of structures, built by mankind, to ensure our survival on the planet. With an estimated weight of 30 billion of billion tons, this artificial layer above the earth's crust was defined as the Tecnosphere in 2013 by the geologist Peter Haff, professor of geology and civil engineering at Duke University.
Great artists of the history of photography as well as internationally renowned young authors describe through their eyes this new artificial layer that man has built over time and that is developing at a dizzying pace.
