Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni”

The Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni” housed in an historic and prestigious building dating back to the 18th century. Its foundations are crossed by a stretch of the ancient Roman road “Flaminia Militare”, while the Hotel’s noble floor grants a view over the remains of the Ariosti family’s ancient medieval towers and the ceiling of the Camerino d’Europa is adorned by the first known fresco by the Carracci brothers. This unique heritage makes the Hotel a museum of art, history and culture.

We invite you to discover our Ristorante I Carracci, a ‘taste destination’, where under a finely frescoed ceiling, our Chef proposes a contemporary ‘fine dining’ cuisine rooted in Italian tradition and paying tribute to the iconic flavours of the city of Bologna.

Discover Bologna

Bologna has one of Europe’s best-preserved historical Centers. Its 40 kilometers of porticos and red brick buildings make this city unique. Besides the history hiding in its palaces, squares, several museums, churches, gardens, parks and canals, the city lives by day and night. See the many typical pubs, theatres, open-air markets and food shops displaying local specialties that make Bologna a capital of good eating, recognized worldwide.

A city of art, culture and commerce, Bologna is called the “Erudite”, as it is the seat of the Alma Mater Studiorum, the oldest university in the western world, founded in 1088. The city of Bologna is also known as the “Fat”, for its gastronomic specialties of ancient tradition, such as ragù, lasagne, tortellini and mortadella.

Discover the city of Bologna in all its artistic splendor with our private, professional and licensed guides, including Massimo Martelli, art historian and artist, creator of the “PERCORSI D’ARTE”, captivating narratives about art in sites of significant cultural importance.

OUR SUGGESTIONS

Clock Tower

Located in Piazza Maggiore, Torre Accursi is also known as the Clock Tower. It is one of the most remarkable monuments in the square and in the centre of Bologna. Its original name comes from Accursio, who was its owner. He came from Florence to study law and later became an illustrious jurist, he wanted to build his own house: a very large building that included a school, with a portico towards the piazza, and a tower in the corner. The tower was added later to Accursio’s house and after his death, it was bought by the growing Municipality of Bologna. What still stands out today is the enormous mechanical clock, placed on the facade of the tower in 1444.

Sanctuary of San Luca

The Sanctuary of San Luca, located on Colle della Guardia, has been the symbol of Bologna as well as a place of religious worship for centuries. It is connected to the city centre by a road that, starting from Porta Saragozza, unwinds for four kilometres with a portico that boasts over 600 archways and is the longest in the world. Together with the other city porticoes, it was included in UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2021. The sanctuary offers marvellous views over the surrounding landscape. In addition, the panoramic terrace opened in 2017 at a height of 42 metres above Colle della Guardia (300 m asl), enables visitors to admire a unique 180° view of Bologna.

Dozza

Dozza is a medieval village a few kilometres from Bologna, considered among the “most beautiful villages in Italy”. It develops with a characteristic spindle shape: the town keeps the medieval urban layout perfectly intact and develops completely within the ancient walls, surmounted at the highest point by the imposing Fortress. Dozza is best known for the Biennial of Contemporary Art of the Painted Wall, which, now in its 25th edition, transforms the village into an open-air museum thanks to the works of well-known artists, who cover the walls of the town. Distance from the Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni”: 40 km

Rocchetta Mattei

Rocchetta Mattei is certainly one of the most interesting and original buildings around Bologna. Its construction began in 1850 at the behest of Count Cesare Mattei, an important figure on the Bolognese scene, whose political and private disappointments prompted him to retire from city life around that time. He devoted himself entirely to the construction of the Rocchetta, a real castle with a unique and eclectic style. The count’s multifarious and distinctive personality is perfectly reflected in the building, where Moorish-style rooms and towers alternate with medieval-like structures, sometimes connected by Art Nouveau staircases. Distance from the Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni”: 47 km
